Monday 18th March 2024
Dear Centre Members, Aligned HDR Colleagues, and Allied Members,
Warm weather lingers as we transition seasonally. According to the Wurundjeri calendar located specifically around Merri Creek, Naarm – we are in a time of transition. If you attended our Retreat last year – it is now the time of the Eel and as it cools it will be the time of the wombat.
Biderap (Dry) season Jan-Feb
Hot and dry weather, low rainfall. Tussock grass is long and dry. Southern Cross high in the south at sunrise. Female common brown butterflies flying.
Iuk (Eel) season March
Cooler temps. Eels are fat and ready to harvest. Manna Gum is flowering. Days and night’s equal length.
Waring (wombat) season April-July
Misty mornings and cold, rainy days. Days are short and nights are long. Wombats seen during day seeking sunshine. Moth and fungi by the creek

This week the CRF hosts the Regenerator – with the first event being the Strategiser – bring your research proposals to the group who gathers and lets explore possibilities. We also prepare for two more Futures Forums and after the intra-tri break/Easter we will enjoy our first On Country event for this year. The CRF hosting of the Australian CCE Summit continues with the second speaker in the series coming up – Costa Georgiadis from Gardening Australia and the continued request to take the survey to ensure your voice contributes to the action plan that will be progressed to parliament to encourage political leadership for CCE.
We share other news from our communities, including possible free tickets comedy festival previews, if you’re in need of a laugh! Please email contributions to us for inclusion in next week’s newsletter.
And, for some fun, here is our final CRF video https://vimeo.com/898858749/da087b6f9e?share=copy
Best wishes
Peta and Jo
