Monday 12th August, 2024
Dear Centre Members, Aligned HDR Colleagues, and Allied Members,
This week is National Science Week! See below for events in Victoria and with Deakin.
Did you know that we also have a National Social Sciences Week? 9 – 14th September. See here. There is an Academy of the Social Sciences – and Deakin has two members: Jill Blackmore and Russell Tytler.
It is also our intra-trimester break… so we trust that you are enjoying a bit of space. If you are looking for things to do – there are some useful sites – What’s On In Melbourne and of course it is the Melbourne International Film Festival.
Our third On Country Day is this Wednesday at St Kilda with the Port Phillip Bay Eco Centre. The weather looks like it will be great – the third day at 19 degrees… no rain in sight. Bring your hat and jacket… we will be on the beach. We are looking forward to a Boonwurrung Land and Sea Council led smoking ceremony in the morning and citizen science program after lunch. Lunch is at a local cafe. Please register with the calendar invite.
This week’s newsletter includes many opportunities put forward by our CRF colleagues for you to consider – the Decolonising Knowledges and Practices Reading group, the AJEE CliFi call and CRF CliFi retreat, Revisiting resistance and solidarities in research Roundtable, HDR CoLab, and Futures Forums for your diary. Peta also shares some reflections and insights in engaging with the media following her day of media exposure last week. We are providing the link for media training, something well worth considering.
We are pleased to welcome Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS – India) as allied members to the CRF: Richa Sharma, Nishevita Jayendran, and Gomathi Jatin.
Best wishes for a slower week.
Jo and Peta
