Dear Centre Members, Aligned HDR Colleagues, and Allied Members,
With the conclusion of the trimester and marking pressure maximised, we hope that you are looking after yourself. Do you stand up every hour? Do you make time for lunch and step away from the computer? Do you plan to meet in person rather than online – even though it will cost you more time? Do you allow time to dream… and dream big? How are you managing the crescendo of email… maybe we need to discuss best practices with email in a future Regenerator. Our Regenerator this last week – was regenerating…we do not record these meetings as discussions are often quite focussed on research strategy. We report on it below, and invite you to share your thoughts in 2 padlets as we reflect on the CRF actions that build researcher capacity.
If you are wondering why you are a part of this group… and what we can hope to achieve… please see this report and recorded symposium. See ASLCG_TooHotTooHandle_2024R.pdf and you only need to watch the first ten minutes of this: Too Hot to Handle: The Scorching Reality of Australia’s Climate-Security Failure.” – YouTube
And and interesting survey about Gen Z’s understanding of Climate Careers – A Survey of 900 young people on their thoughts and perceptions of the climate industry: Whilst 74 percent of respondents were passionate about climate action, only 34 percent had ever considered a job in the climate industry; 60 percent knew nothing of jobs available in the climate industry, and 75 percent knew nothing about pathways into climate jobs. 89 percent reported that their school has not provided information on climate careers.
So… there is much to do… but we must pace ourselves, work with good people, work in ways that are enriching – even if what we are researching is disheartening. And our Regenerators and Retreat and On Country events are strategies that enable us to do just that! Please consider joining in.
Let’s look after ourselves.
