Tuesday 29th July, 2025

Dear Centre Members, HDR Colleagues, and Allied members,

Thanks to all colleagues who ventured out in the wet stormy weather this week to meet us at the Waterfront campus for our 3rd On Country Day. See below for images of the day. The Artefacts of the Future team shared our research with those present and we invited you to be involved – then we made artefacts.  As you can see (below) they are incredible and we really advanced our thinking through this process.

There are some great events coming up soon…. Please see the calendar below.

Note that the Culturally Regenerative Universities project is proceeding with several key CRF members engaged in the leadership team. We are considering strategies to encourage you to be involved.  Here are a few ways….

  1. Join in the online 30 minute learning sessions (see below). The first one was held last Friday – and it was a rich and deep overview of collaborative inquiry. There are six more to come… see below.
  2. Engage in contemplation…. What could a culturally regenerative university look, feel, sound like… if you choose to write or create and want to share – please do … we will hold these spaces open as we deepen into this project. Please email reflections to the CRF inbox or hold them until later in the year.
  3. We will host a Regenerator to focus our ideas and our 4th On Country day will be a collaborative inquiry in Sherbrook Forest (near Belgrave) – deepening our three year repeat visit to this important ecosystem.
  4. Have you read / heard someone who would make a wonderful Futures Forum?  Please let us know…
  5. Pay attention to your acknowledgement of Country – how can we weave in respect for First Nations Peoples globally and engage in truth-telling for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders while building towards reconciliation. At the same time practicing connection to Country and learning alongside the first educators and Country as teacher. The CRF would like to offer a space for co-designing our acknowledgments. Many members are already paying attention  – we will call for collaborations soon.
  6. Do you have a ritualistic practice – like morning pages or meditations or ‘magic’ spots for reflection? If you do great, and you might turn your attention to what cultural regeneration might mean in a university context… we hope you will find ways to share your reflections with us.
  7. More to come…

Heading deeper into Trimester 2, remember to look after yourself. Rest and reflect and stay well!

Finally, we acknowledge the passing of a great leader – Joanna Macy – please read our shared remembrance below.

Best wishes,

Peta and Jo
